Altara Elementary's annual Fun Run on Friday, Oct. 9, aims to raise $10,000 for field trips across all grade levels.
Every dollar raised goes directly to the 560-student Canyons School District campus, according to the school's Monday Minute newsletter posted Sept. 8. The money will fund field trips for students kindergarten through fifth grade. Fundraiser envelopes and information went home with students the week of Sept. 8.
The school also has a busy stretch ahead. The first School Community Council (SCC) meeting of the 2026-27 year is Friday, Sept. 11, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Altara Conference Room. The SCC meets monthly. The school said it will publish the full schedule once the council approves the dates.
At the Canyons School District's Aug. 18 board meeting, Principal Julie Fielding praised the school's parent community while presenting a school highlight. "The Kittyhawks are supported by a strong and invested PTA," she told the board.
That PTA, led this year by President Caroline Carlson, has a Spirit Night planned for Thursday, Sept. 10, at MOOYAH. A Room Parent Tea follows on Sept. 11 at 1:35 p.m., just before the SCC meeting.
The PTA's Reflections art program is accepting student entries for the 2026-27 year. The theme: "What My Culture Means to Me."
