Families in the Canyons School District will log into a redesigned portal when back-to-school registration opens Monday, August 3 at 8:30 a.m. Every student, from incoming kindergartners to returning seniors, must complete the process online before the first day of school Monday, August 17.
The district switched its student information system to Skyward Qmlativ on July 20, replacing the older Skyward SMS 2.0 platform families have used for years. The login URL stays the same — student.canyonsdistrict.org — and existing usernames and passwords still work. But the interface looks different, with updated navigation and a streamlined layout, according to the district.
Business Administrator Leon Wilcox told the Canyons Board of Education at its Tuesday, June 2 meeting that the goal of the Qmlativ rollout was "to hit implementation targets so CSD can have a smooth back-to-school registration process in the fall."
What to do before August 3
Returning students: Confirm your Family Access username and password. If you've forgotten either, reset them at student.canyonsdistrict.org or call the Canyons Help Desk at 801-826-5544. Families who use the Skyward Mobile App will need to reconnect to Canyons School District after the transition.
New students: Families whose children have never attended a CSD school must first create a Family Access account by completing the New Student Online Enrollment form at student.canyonsdistrict.org. That account is required before registration can begin on August 3. Families who started but did not finish the enrollment process before the system transition in late June may need to restart their application in the new system.
During registration
Once logged in on or after August 3, families will follow prompts to verify personal information, add funds to school lunch accounts, and pay fees by credit card. Fee waiver applications are available through the free and reduced-price lunch form during registration.
In-person options
Families who prefer to register in person should contact their child's school for dates and times. The district is also hosting two registration assistance events: Wednesday, August 5, 4-7 p.m. at Midvale Middle School (7852 S. Pioneer St., Midvale) and Thursday, August 6, 4-7 p.m. at Mt. Jordan Middle School (9351 S. Mountaineer Ln., Sandy). For Draper families, the Sandy location is the nearest district event. Those needing help logging in can also call 801-826-5525.
