Corner Canyon's girls soccer season ended with a 2-0 loss to No. 4 American Fork in the 6A state quarterfinals on Thursday, Oct. 15.

Senior midfielder Cambree Ballard scored both goals for the Cavemen, bringing her season total to nine. Goalkeeper Sofia Crowley kept a clean sheet to complete the shutout, according to the Deseret News.

The loss ends the No. 5 seed Chargers' playoff run after they beat No. 12 Copper Hills 2-1 in the first round on Oct. 13. Layla Valadez scored and assisted in that opening-round win, capping a season in which she accounted for 11 goals and two assists. Valadez produced more than 40 percent of Corner Canyon's offensive output this year.

The Chargers' season is over.

Second-year head coach Kelsey Haag's squad had built one of the stingiest defenses in the 6A bracket, conceding just 13 goals all season and allowing more than one goal only twice, according to a Deseret News preview published before the quarterfinal. Goalkeepers Olivia Edwards and Elissa Curry combined for six shutouts during the regular season. Corner Canyon held No. 1 Lone Peak to a 1-1 draw and shut out No. 6 Lehi 2-0 among its quality results.

Thursday's game was the third meeting between the Region 3 rivals this season. American Fork won the first matchup 1-0 at home on Sept. 15, and Corner Canyon answered with a 1-0 victory on its own pitch on Oct. 1. Ballard scored both goals in the decisive third meeting on American Fork's turf.

Ballard led American Fork in goals and assists this season, entering the playoffs with seven goals and six assists, according to the American Fork Citizen. Crowley had recorded multiple shutouts before adding another in the quarterfinal.

Corner Canyon entered the postseason at 11-7. The Chargers were eliminated in last year's quarterfinals as well, falling 2-0 to eventual 6A champion Syracuse. The program has not reached a semifinal in either of Haag's two seasons.

American Fork advances to the 6A semifinals on Monday, Oct. 19, at Zions Bank Stadium. The Cavemen face No. 1 Lone Peak at noon after the Knights routed No. 8 Layton 4-0 in their own quarterfinal, according to state tournament bracket results.
