The Draper City Council will revisit rules that bar recreational vehicles from sitting in driveways at its Tuesday, Oct. 20 meeting.
Mayor Troy K. Walker and the council will also hear a follow-up on pedestrian safety concerns along Lone Peak Parkway near American Preparatory Academy, according to the meeting agenda. The business session begins at 7 p.m. at 1020 E. Pioneer Rd., Draper.
RV and trailer parking
Under current Draper City Code Section 9-25-050(G), RVs, boats, trailers and motor homes in residential zones must be parked behind the front wall plane of the primary structure. In practice, that means an RV or boat cannot sit in the driveway forward of the house.
A resident asked the city to reconsider that restriction. The agenda does not name the resident.
RV and boat parking is one of the most common code violations in Draper, alongside overgrown weeds, sidewalk parking and parking on front lawns. The parking rule was last amended by Ordinance 1704, adopted Feb. 17.
It is not yet clear whether the council will vote on an ordinance change, direct staff to draft one or hold a broader discussion. The agenda does not specify the format of the item.
Crosswalk safety near Lone Peak Parkway
At the council's Oct. 6 meeting, several residents and children from the Bricker Haven neighborhood asked the city to install safer crosswalks and lower speed limits near American Preparatory Academy on Lone Peak Parkway. The Oct. 20 agenda lists a follow-up on those concerns.
The city has already committed resources to Lone Peak Parkway. On Aug. 4, the council authorized eminent domain under Resolution #26-38 to acquire property for a road-widening project aimed at improving safety at the intersection of 123rd South. The Wasatch Front Regional Council has also identified Lone Peak Parkway for widening in its long-range plans, as City Weekly reported.
No city staff report or traffic study addressing the Bricker Haven crosswalk concerns has been released ahead of the meeting.
The next council meeting after Oct. 20 is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10.
