Four Canyons School District Board of Education seats are on the ballot Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to the Salt Lake County Clerk's candidate certification for the regular general election.

Salt Lake County Clerk Lannie Chapman certified the full slate of county candidates on Aug. 25. The races cover Districts 2, 4, 5 and 6 on the seven-member board that oversees schools in Draper, Sandy and surrounding communities.

School consolidations loom over the race

The board has made high-stakes decisions heading into this election cycle. At its Dec. 2, 2025, meeting, members voted to consolidate the Ridgecrest and Bella Vista elementary school communities into a single school of about 600 students starting in the 2026-2027 school year.

Students within Bella Vista boundaries were reassigned to Ridgecrest, less than a mile away. The Bella Vista facility closed as an elementary school but remains a district asset. Busing will be provided for former Bella Vista students.

Superintendent Dr. Robins called the community input process a "silver lining," saying it showed how invested families are in their neighborhood schools. He said the consolidation stems from declining enrollments, not academic performance.

Big money, big construction

Business Administrator Leon Wilcox presented the district's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report at the same December 2025 meeting. It showed an unassigned general fund balance of about $32.6 million, up from $25.4 million the prior year.

Capital outlay expenditures totaled $103 million, driven by construction at Jordan, Hillcrest and Corner Canyon high schools and Eastmont, Albion and Indian Hills middle schools. The district also acquired the former eBay regional headquarters in Draper through $56.9 million in lease-revenue bonds issued in December 2024.

Board President Amber Shill emphasized efforts to strengthen the Eastmont-Jordan feeder, noting the district has invested significant money to improve both facilities.
