A rockslide shut down ramps connecting I-215 and I-80 near Parleys Canyon on Sunday, Nov. 1, sending large rocks and debris across the freeway.
The closure affects a primary route for Draper residents who use the interchange to reach I-80 and Parleys Canyon. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) urged drivers to use alternate routes, ABC4 reported.
No injuries were reported, according to FOX 13.
What closed
News accounts differ on the exact scope of the closures. ABC4 reported that exit ramps from both northbound and southbound I-215 closed as a result of the rockslide. FOX 13 reported that westbound I-80 and northbound I-215 near Parleys Canyon were closed. KUTV reported that two freeway ramps near Parleys Canyon closed, according to UDOT.
An emergency vehicle was stopped near the debris on the roadway, KUTV reported.
Rocks kept falling
Officials confirmed that debris closed the roads and said they expected the closures to last overnight as rocks continued to fall from the mountain, according to FOX 13.
UDOT initially estimated clearance by 9:12 p.m., but access remained closed past that time, ABC4 reported. No confirmed reopening time had been announced as of Sunday evening.
What Draper commuters should know
The I-215/I-80 interchange is a major connection point for drivers heading to and from Parleys Canyon, Park City and points east. UDOT advised drivers to find alternate routes while the closure remained in effect.
Draper residents who commute through the interchange on weekday mornings should check UDOT's traffic updates before heading out Monday, Nov. 2. The situation remained developing as of Sunday night, with multiple outlets noting that conditions could change.
