Draper's Historic Preservation Commission will take up unresolved costs for a historic plaque, trail safety worries and an entertainment venue update when it meets Sept. 30.

The three items come from the city's OpenUtah meeting preview, an automated summary generated before the formal agenda is posted. The official agenda had not been published as of Sept. 14.

Plaque installation costs remain open

The commission has spent most of 2026 working with Salt Lake County to install a plaque at the Widowmaker Flight Park, a county-owned hang-gliding and paragliding site in Draper. The plaque project first appeared on the HPC agenda in January and has returned at nearly every meeting since, including March and June sessions.

At the June 17 meeting, members pushed the target ceremony date to late September to avoid summer heat. By the commission's Sept. 9 meeting, the sole agenda item was ceremony coordination, covering logistics, outreach and scheduling.

The commission and Salt Lake County are close to an agreement, according to the preview. Installation costs remain unresolved. Because Salt Lake County owns and manages the Flight Park, any on-site work requires county sign-off.

One community member has offered to bring vintage motorcycles and memorabilia tied to the Bees Motorcycle Club, a group with roots at the site, to the ceremony.

Trail safety and signage

Residents have raised two concerns flagged in the preview. Some say trails are growing too rocky for younger riders. Separately, hikers have reported getting lost near the Jungle Trail, a kid-friendly path in the Corner Canyon system accessed from the Carolina Hills Trailhead at 13625 Carolina Hill Ct E.

The city is exploring additional signage to help visitors navigate safely. The Parks, Trails & Recreation Committee also has trail safety on its Oct. 7 agenda, signaling that multiple city bodies are tracking the issue.

Point entertainment venue

The preview notes that The Point development is launching an entertainment venue. No details about the venue's name, capacity or the commission's specific role were available.
