A certified arborist will answer Draper residents' tree care questions at a free "Tree Talk" on Monday, Sept. 21, at City Hall.

The Draper Tree Committee is organizing the hour-long session, scheduled for 7 to 8 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 1020 East Pioneer Road. The arborist will cover choosing the right trees for a yard, proper planting techniques and ongoing care, according to the city's event listing.

Space is limited. Residents can register at draperutah.gov.

The event is part of the Tree Committee's series of free classes at City Hall. At the city's Arbor Day ceremony in June, Councilmember Tasha Lowery highlighted the committee's work, the Draper Journal reported. "We are obviously deeply committed to trees," Lowery said at the June 11 ceremony. She said she was told Draper has about 10,000 trees citywide.

David Cloward, who chaired the Tree Committee as of June, leads a group whose mantra is "Trees for generations." The committee's February 2026 agenda included planning for Tree Talks and the introduction of a new arborist, according to committee records.

Draper has held Tree City USA status for 26 years. City Forester Taylor Parker said at the Arbor Day ceremony that trees in Draper help cut heating and cooling costs, clean the air and increase property values.

The Tree Talk is not the committee's only upcoming offering. A free Localscapes class, "Creating Your Ideal Draper Yard," is set for Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the same Council Chambers. Registration is also required for that session.
