Draper-based nonprofit Tech-Moms is rolling out a paid internship program that will place its alumni with local employers for three to six months, co-founder Trina Limpert told TechBuzz News on Wednesday, July 16.
Limpert announced the "Try a Tech-Mom" program at a Summer Social that drew more than 150 attendees to Progressive Leasing's headquarters at 256 W. Data Drive. The event, a partnership with JPMorgan Chase, paired a financial wellness workshop with a school-supply giveaway for families.
The internship program targets startups and established companies looking for short-term technical talent without a long-term hiring commitment. Alumni fields include web development, UX design, digital marketing, cybersecurity, project management, and AI automation engineering.
"Internships through the organization are never unpaid," Limpert said, adding that roughly 95% of alumni who have completed informal placements in the past were hired on afterward.
Limpert said the program grew from a recognition that hiring managers often carry assumptions about the skill level of women re-entering the workforce after time away. She pointed to one 2020 graduate, a mother of three without a prior degree, who earned a software engineering degree and works as a senior AI solution engineer at Microsoft.
A landing page for "Try a Tech-Mom" at tech-moms.org was expected to go live the week of July 16.
JPMorgan Chase partnership
Mallory Santa Cruz, JPMorgan Chase vice president and community manager, led the financial wellness workshop, sharing money-management tips attendees could act on immediately. JPMorgan Chase also donated backpacks and school supplies distributed to children at the event.
Limpert said the partnership aims to expand financial education access for Utah mothers. A 2025 white paper from the Utah Women & Leadership Project at Utah State University found that many Utah women lack awareness of financial resources available to them, according to TechBuzz News.
Robbyn Scribner, Tech-Moms co-founder and director of outreach, and Tatiana Larsen, a program participant and single mother of seven, were also on hand. Progressive Leasing team members Connie Washington, vice president of people, and Beth Martial helped host the gathering.
What's next
Since launching in 2020, Tech-Moms has trained more than 1,000 women across the Wasatch Front, Limpert told TechBuzz News. Fall enrollment is open for five courses: a data analytics track starting Saturday, Aug. 22; a project management track starting Saturday, Sept. 12; and three foundational "bridging" programs at Salt Lake Community College in Sandy, Utah Valley University in Lehi, and Utah Tech University in St. George, running September through November. The nine-week foundational course costs $400, with tuition assistance and childcare support available.
Details for employers interested in hosting an intern will be posted at tech-moms.org.
