Corner Canyon three-star recruit Diesel Dart has committed to play football at the University of Utah, choosing the Utes over BYU and Michigan.

Dart, a two-way standout who plays safety and wide receiver for the Chargers, told The Salt Lake Tribune on Thursday, Sept. 17, that the decision came together quickly. He took an official visit to Utah on June 12, canceled his remaining visits and informed Utah head coach Morgan Scalley and safeties coach Derrick Odum of his commitment via FaceTime on June 18.

"I had a couple other OVs set, and then after I went on my one to Utah, I canceled them because I knew it was the right spot for me," Dart told the Tribune.

The family ties run deep. Dart's father, Brandon, played at Utah in the 1990s under then-graduate assistant Derrick Odum. Diesel grew up playing Little League football with Scalley's nephew. He told the Tribune those long-standing relationships made the choice clear.

Dart plans to play safety at Utah, the same position Scalley played before becoming a coach. He told the Tribune he loves defense and wants to reach the NFL.

His older brother, Jaxson Dart, took his own path out of Corner Canyon. Jaxson committed to USC, transferred to Ole Miss and became a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He is the quarterback for the New York Giants. Diesel said his brother's recruiting experience helped the family navigate the process.

On the field, Dart is putting up big numbers in his senior season for the 4-1 Chargers. He leads the team with eight touchdowns and two interceptions through five games, according to MaxPreps. In the season opener, he caught two passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing score in a 51-14 win over Davis. On Sept. 11, he scored twice as Corner Canyon beat Eastwood of Texas, 52-7.

Corner Canyon's lone loss came to Liberty High School in Peoria, Arizona. Dart told the Tribune he hopes to lead the Chargers to another state championship before heading to Salt Lake City.
