Corner Canyon's girls volleyball team will open the 2026 season as the top-ranked squad in Class 6A, according to the Deseret News preseason coaches poll published Sunday, Aug. 2.

The Chargers won the program's first state championship last fall, finishing 25-6 and knocking off top-seeded Skyridge in the 6A title match. Now head coach Kelsey Haag's group returns the bulk of that roster, including first-team all-state setter Nafanua Alofipo, as they chase consecutive crowns.

That is rare company.

Five of last year's six state champions across all classifications were voted No. 1 in their respective preseason polls, but Corner Canyon's path to the top was anything but predictable. The Chargers finished second in Region 3 during the 2025 regular season, then caught fire in the postseason. Entering the state tournament as the No. 2 seed, they upset a Skyridge squad that had gone 27-3 to claim the program's first-ever volleyball title.

Alofipo, a setter who earned first-team all-state honors in 2025, anchors a returning core that gives the Chargers continuity few 6A programs can match heading into the new campaign. The preseason poll, compiled by veteran Deseret News prep reporter James Edward, asks every girls volleyball coach in the classification to rank the top five teams; five points are awarded for a first-place vote down to one for fifth, and coaches cannot vote for their own team.

The full 6A preseason top five, with 2025 records: Corner Canyon (25-6), Lone Peak (19-11), Skyridge (27-3), Mountain Ridge (27-5) and Syracuse (21-9). Bingham and American Fork also received multiple votes.

Skyridge's drop from No. 1 seed to No. 3 in the preseason poll reflects the Falcons' championship-match loss and the coaches' belief that Corner Canyon and Lone Peak have closed the gap at the top of the classification.
