Draper APA's baseball team dropped both games of a two-game series to UMA Hill Field during the week of Sept. 1, adding to a rough start for the Eagles.

The sweep earned UMA Hill Field senior Eli Lundstrom the Deseret News Week 6 baseball athlete of the week honor, published Monday, Sept. 7. Lundstrom went 5-for-8 at the plate across the two games against Draper APA.

The Eagles entered the series struggling. Draper APA stood at 0-5 after an 18-3 loss to American Heritage on Aug. 26, according to Deseret News game records. The two additional losses to UMA Hill Field make at least seven defeats on the young season.

The matchup between the two programs has become lopsided. UMA Hill Field, based in Riverdale, also swept Draper APA during the fall 2025 season, winning 8-7 on Sept. 15, 2025, and 8-5 on Sept. 19, 2025, according to MaxPreps records. That makes four consecutive losses for the Eagles against the Thunderbirds across two seasons.

Lundstrom has been the engine behind UMA Hill Field's 6-3 start. The senior carries a .750 batting average with 10 doubles, 16 RBIs and 16 stolen bases. He is a threat on the mound, too. In six relief appearances totaling 8 1/3 innings, he has struck out 19 batters while allowing just two runs.

UMA Hill Field coach Jaryd Olsen praised Lundstrom's versatility in the Deseret News feature, calling him "a clutch hitter who thrives with runners on base and a phenomenal reliever in high-leverage moments." Olsen added that Lundstrom regularly spends extra time helping teammates improve.

The Thunderbirds sit at 6-3 heading into the second half of their fall schedule.
