Zach Wilson, the former Corner Canyon High School quarterback who grew up in Draper, became a father and headed to his fourth NFL team in the span of a single week.

Wilson's wife, Nicolette Dellanno, gave birth to their daughter Francesca Belle Wilson on Wednesday, July 22, at a hospital in Provo. The baby, who will go by Frankie, arrived at 33 weeks, about six weeks before her September 4 due date. Wilson told the Deseret News both mother and baby were comfortable and healthy.

Hours after the birth, Wilson honored a commitment to appear at a ticketed autograph signing at Overtime Cards in Sandy, where fans paid $25 to have him sign memorabilia. He sat down with the Deseret News' Jay Drew for a wide-ranging interview before rushing back to the hospital.

"My biggest fear going there was that I didn't want to be another Sam Darnold, Geno Smith story," Wilson said of his time with the New York Jets, who drafted him No. 2 overall in 2021. "Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened. It was a brutal three years, but looking back, there was a lot of good life experiences that I take from it that I feel like made me a better person."

Wilson went 12-21 as a starter with the Jets from 2021 to 2023, throwing for 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. He spent 2024 with the Denver Broncos without appearing in a game and completed just 6 of 11 passes in four appearances for the Miami Dolphins in 2025.

In March, Wilson signed a one-year, $1.4 million deal with the New Orleans Saints. Nearly $600,000 is guaranteed, plus a $187,500 signing bonus. That's a steep drop from his $6 million Dolphins contract, and Wilson acknowledged the math.

"I have some guaranteed money, obviously, but not as much as I probably had last year in Miami," he said. "My guarantees are not enough to make them care if they cut me. So I still got to earn a spot."

Wilson said second-year Saints head coach Kellen Moore was "a big reason" he chose New Orleans, noting the offense mirrors Denver's system and fits his style of play. He participated in Saints organized team activities from April 15 through June 18 and said he planned to fly to Louisiana on Monday, July 27, ahead of training camp. The Saints' first public practice is Thursday, July 30, at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center in Metairie.

Wilson will compete with Spencer Rattler for the backup role behind starter Tyler Shough. ESPN's 53-man roster projection lists Wilson as the third quarterback.

The 26-year-old, who turns 27 on Monday, August 3, said he and Dellanno have been living in Mapleton in a home built by his brother Josh. He plans to stay rooted in Utah County after his playing career ends, though the couple also plans to buy a home in New Jersey, where Dellanno grew up.

Wilson's younger brother Isaac, the 2023 Deseret News Mr. Football who set the Utah state record for total offense at Corner Canyon with 5,901 yards as a senior, transferred from the University of Utah to Colorado under Deion Sanders in January. Zach noted at the Corner Canyon jersey retirement ceremony on March 30 that he followed Isaac's high school games on the school's Charger TV broadcast from wherever he was in the NFL.

Wilson's own jersey was retired at Corner Canyon that same night before roughly 300 fans, alongside Jaxon Dart and Jackson Powers-Johnson. Former head coach Eric Kjar, who compiled a 112-10 record and six state titles in nine seasons with the Chargers, received Canyon School District's first Legacy of Excellence Award at the ceremony.

Saints training camp runs through Thursday, August 27.
