A Ford F-150 driver died after crashing into a parked semi-truck on US-6 late on Oct. 23, the Utah Department of Public Safety reported.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers responded to the crash near mile marker 210 at approximately 11:27 p.m. The F-150 had been traveling westbound when the driver left the roadway to the right for an unknown reason and struck a semi-truck with a trailer that was parked along the highway, according to the agency's press release.
The F-150 driver sustained fatal injuries. The semi-truck driver was not injured.
The Department of Public Safety did not identify either driver. The agency listed the cause of the lane departure as unknown and did not say whether speed, impairment or other factors are under investigation.
Location note
The DPS press release tagged the crash location as near Draper, but mile marker 210 on US-6 falls in the Spanish Fork Canyon corridor in Utah County, roughly 40 miles south of Draper. The Draper Herald was unable to independently confirm the precise jurisdiction for the crash site. Readers familiar with the canyon stretch of US-6 know the highway has a long history of serious crashes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration counted 519 fatal and serious-injury crashes between Spanish Fork and Green River on the non-freeway portion of US-6 from 1996 to 2008, according to the agency's data cited in federal highway records.
The investigation remains open. Anyone with information about the crash can contact the Utah Highway Patrol.
