Minky Couture, the Ogden-based luxury blanket company, is expanding to Draper with a 26,000-square-foot corporate office on the fourth floor of Minuteman Office Plaza.

The company announced the lease Sept. 28 in a Deseret News BrandView post, saying the Draper space will serve as a second hub alongside its Ogden headquarters, which will continue operating.

Shirley Heaps, Minky Couture's PR and communications manager, said the I-15 corridor location puts the company closer to Salt Lake City "for events, meetings, and recruiting in the area."

Founder and CEO Sandi Hendry started the company in 2009 after making a blanket for her adult daughter during an extended hospital stay. She went to a fabric store, discovered a material called "minky," and had a friend sew the first one. The company now has seven retail locations and more than one million Instagram followers, according to the announcement. A sponsored post on Utah Business listed the company at more than 300 employees as of August.

Brandon Fugal, chairman of Colliers, brokered the lease. He said Draper's position along I-15 gives Minky Couture "direct access to the talent, infrastructure and momentum driving Silicon Slopes."

Minuteman Office Plaza sits on Minuteman Drive along the I-15 corridor. The building's landlord, LD Bowerman Investments LLC, called Minky Couture an anchor tenant. Michael Skalla, a representative of LD Bowerman Investments, said construction on the space has begun, though no move-in date has been announced.

The lease comes as Minky Couture's national profile grows. The company's brand partnerships include the Boston Red Sox, the Dallas Cowboys, the NHL, Disney and more than 75 colleges. For every full-size blanket sold, the company donates a mini blanket to a neonatal intensive care unit, distributing about 6,000 each month.

No specific hiring targets or opening timeline for the Draper office have been released. Construction is underway.
