Corner Canyon girls soccer returns five seniors and a quarterfinal run as the Chargers open the 2026 season the week of Monday, Aug. 3, with second-year head coach Kelsey Haag counting on veteran leadership to push past last year's 10-8 finish.

"This team has the potential to accomplish something special this upcoming season," Haag told the Deseret News in its Sunday, Aug. 2 preseason capsule.

The Chargers tied for third in Class 6A Region 3 last fall with a 3-5 league mark, then won a second-round playoff game over Weber 1-0 before Syracuse ended their run 2-0 in the quarterfinals. Corner Canyon finished No. 10 in the final 6A RPI, averaging 2.4 goals scored per game against 1.8 allowed.

Who's back

Senior goalkeeper Olivia Edwards anchors the defense. Up top, senior forward Layla Valadez returns alongside midfielder/forward Alexis Glutz and Ellie Lewis, both seniors. Senior Leah Carver adds experience at midfielder/defender.

The junior class is deep: defender Kate George, midfielder/defender Sienna Midgley, defenders Brynn Wheeler, forward Hallie Neff, and midfielder/forwards Halle Lloyd and Olivia Rockwood round out a returning core of 13 players who saw varsity time in 2025.

New faces

Haag added 12 newcomers to the roster, headlined by senior midfielder/forward Landri Stephenson, senior defender Addison Paynter, and junior midfielder/forward Quinn Haragan. Sophomore goalkeeper Elissa Curry gives the Chargers depth behind Edwards.

Region 3 picture

Coaches project Corner Canyon second in Region 3 behind Lone Peak, which went 18-2 last season and holds the No. 1 spot in the statewide preseason poll. American Fork, Lehi, and Skyridge fill out the region behind the Chargers. Corner Canyon received votes but landed outside the top five in the July 27 coaches poll, as we noted that week.

Haag said the upperclassmen have set the standard through work ethic and communication, while the underclassmen have stepped up and proven they can contribute at the varsity level.

What's next

The 6A season opens the week of Aug. 3. Corner Canyon's first-game opponent and time have not been released, but the Chargers' first Region 3 test will come against a Lone Peak squad that returns as the classification's consensus No. 1.
