A six-week chronic pain self-management class starts Thursday, Oct. 1, in Draper, according to a Draper Journal event listing. The program runs each Thursday through Nov. 5.

The "Living Well with Chronic Pain" program, developed by Stanford University, teaches participants how to manage conditions such as arthritis, back pain and headaches. The class is also open to caregivers.

Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services, which operates the Draper Senior Center at 1148 E. Pioneer Road, is hosting the class. Center Manager Shawn Ashby can be reached at 385-468-3322 for questions about the facility.

Each weekly session lasts about 2½ hours and is led by two trained leaders, according to the Healthy Living Center of Excellence. Topics include exercise strategies, medication use, coping with fatigue and poor sleep, communicating with doctors and family, pacing activity with rest, and evaluating new treatments.

The program is part of a statewide effort run through the Utah DHHS Healthy Aging Program, which describes it as "a workgroup based program to help people with chronic pain." The state says many of its Living Well programs are offered at no cost. Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services offered the same class at the Taylorsville and River's Bend senior centers earlier in 2026.

Sessions are interactive. USU Extension, which helps deliver the program statewide, says participants learn through brainstorming, group discussions and partner exercises built around lived experience.

To register, call Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services at 385-468-3299, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents can also search for workshops at healthyaging.utah.gov/find-workshop.
