Bowen Mauss, a Corner Canyon High School product from Draper, will compete at the PGA Tour's Bank of Utah Championship starting Thursday, Oct. 1, in Ivins.

Mauss, a sophomore at Arizona State, earned a sponsor exemption into the $6 million tournament after winning his second consecutive Utah State Amateur title in July at Soldier Hollow Golf Club in Midway. He defeated Cedar Hills business owner Cameron Crawford 9 and 7 in the championship match of the 128th edition, going 12-0 across his last two State Am tournaments, according to the Deseret News.

His brother, Jackson Mauss, a BYU golfer, caddied for him during the title run.

Mauss became the first back-to-back State Am winner since fellow Sun Devil Preston Summerhays accomplished the feat in 2018 and 2019. In his freshman season at Arizona State, Mauss posted three top-10 finishes, according to Arizona State athletics.

"I definitely plan on playing. I'm really excited to make my second PGA Tour start, and I would like to make the most of it," Mauss told the Deseret News in July after clinching the State Am title.

He is one of 10 Utah high school graduates in the 120-player field, a number the Deseret News described as likely a record for a PGA Tour event. The group includes six-time PGA Tour winner Tony Finau, a Salt Lake City native making his first appearance at the three-year-old tournament.

Finau, 37, missed all four majors and the FedExCup Playoffs in 2026. He sits at No. 100 on the FedExCup Fall points list.

The defending champion is Michael Brennan, who won the 2025 edition as a sponsor exemption in his first PGA Tour start as a professional, according to PGATour.com. Brennan went on to win the 2026 Wyndham Championship.

Utah golfers are 3-for-17 in making the 36-hole cut across the event's first two years, according to Utah golf historian Kurt Kragthorpe. Only Zac Blair in 2024 and 2025, and Connor Howe in 2025, have survived the weekend.

Ashley Dove, executive director of the Bank of Utah Championship, told the Deseret News on Sept. 29 that the tournament is committed to giving Utah players a path to the Tour. "That's a huge priority of ours, and a big goal," Dove said. "We want to provide pathways to those Utah golfers and that Utah talent, so that they have access to the Tour."

Black Desert Resort plays as a par-71 layout measuring 7,421 yards. The winner receives 500 FedExCup points.

Mauss tees off Thursday at 9:14 a.m. local time from the 10th tee, grouped with Alejandro Tosti and Jesper Svensson.
