Former Corner Canyon High star Isaac Wilson is expected to make his first collegiate start at quarterback for Colorado against No. 12 Texas Tech on Saturday, Oct. 3.

CBS Sports reporter Matt Zenitz reported on X that Wilson is "currently expected" to get the starting nod when the Buffaloes host the Red Raiders at 5:30 p.m. MDT on Fox. The Deseret News confirmed the report on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Wilson earned the opportunity after replacing starter Julian Lewis at halftime of Colorado's 23-13 loss at Baylor on Saturday, Sept. 26. Lewis completed 11 of 16 passes for 75 yards in the first half, but the Buffaloes crossed midfield just once and managed only three points.

Wilson played the entire second half. He completed 12 of 25 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown, leading scoring drives that pulled Colorado even at 13-13. First came a six-play, 63-yard possession that ended in a 46-yard field goal. Then Wilson engineered a 12-play, 95-yard march capped by a 17-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Joseph Williams with 11:04 left. Baylor answered with 10 unanswered points to close the game.

"Isaac came in, a little shaky, nervous. Then he calmed down a little bit, got us down the field, did his job," head coach Deion Sanders said after the loss. He told Wilson the message was simple: "Don't have to be the guy, just get the ball … to the guys and we're fine."

Sanders said after the Baylor game that no final decision had been made and that practices would determine the starter. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Sept. 29, Sanders called Wilson "excited about the possibilities."

Williams, who caught 11 passes for 127 yards against Baylor, said the receivers are confident no matter who lines up behind center.

Wilson, a junior listed at 6 feet and 212 pounds, was one of the top quarterback recruits in the Class of 2024 when he left Corner Canyon, where he helped lead the Chargers to a state championship under then-coach Eric Kjar. He played two seasons at Utah, throwing for 1,510 yards with 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions as a freshman in 2024 after starter Cam Rising was injured. He attempted just one pass in 2025 before entering the transfer portal and signing with Colorado in January.

His older brother, former BYU and NFL quarterback Zach Wilson, told the Deseret News in July that he advised Isaac to find a program where he could compete for the starting job right away.

If Isaac Wilson holds the job, a reunion looms. Colorado hosts No. 13 Utah on Saturday, Oct. 17, following a bye week after the Texas Tech game.
