Four ramps near the I-215 and I-80 interchange close Tuesday, Oct. 6, for about 20 days of bridge work. Draper-area commuters who use Redwood Road to reach I-215 or I-80 northbound will need to find alternate routes.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) announced Oct. 1 that the closures begin at 4 a.m. and affect these ramps:

  • Eastbound I-80 to Redwood Road
  • Northbound I-215 to Redwood Road
  • Westbound SR-201 to northbound I-215
  • Redwood Road (near westbound SR-201) to northbound I-215

All four closures are part of the I-215 West Improved project, a major rehabilitation effort running from SR-201 to North Temple. The project is replacing 18 bridge decks and repairing 12 additional bridges along the corridor. Construction started in July 2025 and is expected to wrap up in late summer 2027.

UDOT is advising drivers to follow posted detour signs, allow extra travel time and consider using I-15 as an alternate route through the construction zone.

Two other ramps in the same area are already closed. The northbound I-215 ramp to California Avenue is shut down until Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 4 a.m. The California Avenue ramp to northbound I-215 is closed until Friday, Oct. 9, at 4 a.m. A separate, longer-term closure keeps the Redwood Road ramp to northbound I-215 shut through July 2027.

UDOT Project Manager John Montoya said in a July 27 press release about earlier closures on the same project that staying ahead of bridge maintenance "…helps keep our transportation system safe and reliable, and helps us get the most from the infrastructure Utahns have already invested in."

As of June 2026, the project had reached its halfway point, with 13 bridges completed and traffic shifted onto several miles of new pavement. All I-215 traffic through the construction zone has since been moved to the rebuilt west side of the freeway.

Schedules are weather-dependent. Drivers can check conditions on the UDOT Traffic website or the UDOT Traffic app, available for iPhone and Android. Residents with questions can call the project hotline at 855-215-UDOT or email [email protected].
