Draper Historic Theatre opens its fall season with "Little Shop of Horrors," the musical about a man-eating plant, starting Friday, Oct. 2, and running through Oct. 24.
The production features a cast of 28 performing at the theater's home at 12366 South 900 East in Draper. Director Derrick Cain leads the creative team alongside choreographer Yunnie Kim and music director Emily Mijarez, according to the theater's Instagram page.
"Little Shop of Horrors" has music by Alan Menken and book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, the creative duo behind Disney's "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin." The story follows Seymour Krelborn, a meek floral shop assistant who discovers a carnivorous alien plant he names "Audrey II" after his coworker crush. The plant promises fame and fortune in exchange for blood.
Performances run Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Mondays at 7 p.m., with some additional Thursday and Tuesday evening shows, according to Visit Salt Lake's event listing. The theater asks that families leave infants at home. A lobby monitor is available for parents who need to step out with young children.
The Annie Pearl and John A. Howell family built the original movie house, called "The Pearl," in 1938. The building is now on the Draper Historic Register.
The theater became a nonprofit in 1998 and describes itself as the only privately owned live theater in the south Salt Lake Valley, according to its history page. Artistic Director Kevin McClellan and Board Chair Rhonda Neiswender lead the organization.
Tickets are available at draperhistorictheatre.vbotickets.com. Pricing was not listed online at publication time.
Coming up at Draper Historic Theatre: The 2026 season continues with "Puffs" and "Frozen." Dates for those productions have not been announced.
