Corner Canyon hosts Cedar Valley at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, as an 80-point favorite in Parry's Power Guide. The Chargers (5-2, 1-1 Region 3) are looking to rebound after their first region loss of the season.
Noland Parry's Power Guide, published Wednesday, Sept. 30, gives Corner Canyon a 143.1 rating to Cedar Valley's 62.3. The 80.8-point gap is the widest spread involving a Draper school in Week 8.
Across town, Juan Diego Catholic (1-6) hosts Highland (5-1, 3-0 Region 10) at 7 p.m. Friday. The Soaring Eagle enter as 50.2-point underdogs, with Highland rated 66.7 to Juan Diego's 16.5.
Chargers aim to reset after Skyridge
Corner Canyon fell to Skyridge 37-27 on Sept. 25 in Lehi. Skyridge recorded five interceptions, including two pick-sixes on Corner Canyon's first two drives, and built a 27-0 lead before halftime, according to the Deseret News.
It was the first time Skyridge had beaten Corner Canyon since the 2022 6A state championship game.
The Chargers remain ranked No. 3 in the KSL Sports Top 25 entering Week 8. Senior quarterback Jaxon Pehrson has thrown for 979 yards and 16 touchdowns through seven games, per On3. Senior Diesel Dart, younger brother of New York Giants quarterback Jaxon Dart, has 10 touchdowns and 361 receiving yards.
Head coach Casey Sutera, in his first season leading the program after predecessor Eric Kjar left for Weber State, has preached steady improvement. After the Chargers' 37-14 win over Lone Peak on Sept. 18, Sutera said, "I'm just worried about continuing to improve and get better each week, but I'm proud of our kids."
Gardner returns to face his former program
Friday's game carries a subplot. Cedar Valley head coach Cody Gardner spent the previous four years as Corner Canyon's defensive coordinator before taking over the Aviators in 2026. He inherited a roster with one returning offensive starter and zero returning defensive starters.
Cedar Valley (1-6) lost to Bingham 49-7 on Sept. 25. The Aviators were picked last in Region 2 before the season.
In the Deseret News' preseason Region 2 preview, published Aug. 9, Gardner said his focus was on building a new culture. He praised his players for buying in and described the program as centered on how the team goes about its daily work, not just results on the field.
Juan Diego hosts Highland in Region 10
Juan Diego's lone win came Thursday, Sept. 17, a 48-3 rout of Cottonwood in which quarterback Jacoby Ahlstrom threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more, per KSL Sports. The Soaring Eagle lost to East 54-6 on Sept. 25, their only game since.
Highland arrives ranked No. 24 in the KSL Top 25 and unbeaten in Region 10 play.
Both games kick off at 7 p.m. Friday. Corner Canyon's matchup will stream on the KSL Sports app and sports.ksl.com.
