A motorcyclist died Saturday afternoon on northbound Interstate 15 near 10800 South in Draper after his bike skidded into two vehicles that had slowed for traffic.

The crash happened at about 1:21 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, according to a Utah Department of Public Safety press release. A black Dodge Journey was traveling northbound in lane four when it began to slow for traffic. A motorcycle directly behind the SUV skidded and struck the Dodge's left rear, then collided with the rear of a Ford F-350 in lane three.

The male motorcyclist was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. His identity has not been released. No one in the Dodge Journey or the Ford F-350 was injured.

Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Wright told Gephardt Daily on Oct. 3 that "the rider was transported to an area hospital, and died" but said he could not yet provide additional details about the victim or the cause of the crash.

The crash shut down three of the six northbound lanes on I-15, blocked the right shoulder and closed the entrance ramp north of 11400 South, according to the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). According to KUTV, UDOT logged the incident at 1:23 p.m. and last updated its alert at 2:16 p.m.

UDOT Traffic posted on X that the estimated clearance time was 2:26 p.m., but the DPS press release said closures were expected to remain in effect for several hours. A final clearance time has not been confirmed.

The Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) said the investigation is ongoing. No contributing factors such as speed, impairment or road conditions have been confirmed.

Drivers can check real-time road conditions and closures by calling 511 or visiting UDOT's traffic website.
