A new retail building on Ikea Way, a home-based barbecue business and a residential plat change head to the Draper Planning Commission on Thursday, Aug. 27.

The headliner is a site plan and parking deviation request for Wise Flooring & Design at 41 W. Ikea Way. Mitch Cordner, representing property owner Savio Rentals, filed the application for a retail building on roughly 1.08 acres, according to the meeting agenda. The project would need a deviation from the city's strict parking requirements, the city's public hearing notice states.

The commission granted a similar parking reduction in April for a Bassett Furniture showroom next door at 51 W. Ikea Way, cutting required stalls from 80 to 40 on that 1.24-acre site. Whether Wise Flooring's request seeks a comparable reduction is not yet public; the city has not released a staff report detailing the proposed stall count or building square footage.

Wise Flooring & Design sells hard-surface flooring, carpet, tile, cabinets and countertops, according to the company's website. It's unclear whether the Ikea Way location would be a new store or a relocation.

BBQ cottage business

Russell Stephenson is asking for a home occupation conditional use permit to run Rusty's Pitmasters Barbecue, LLC from his property at 1645 E. Richins Rd. The city's public hearing notice describes the venture as a cottage business producing barbecued foods. The company's website says all meats are cooked over hardwood and charcoal fire exclusively.

That's a public hearing. Residents can comment.

The commission will also consider an amended plat for Camden Park Subdivision Phase 1, filed by Philip and Shelli Rosbach and The Weaver Family Trust for two parcels totaling about 0.62 acres at 11446 and 11464 S. Camden Rd. The city noted that public comment will not be taken on that item, though the meeting remains open for attendance.
