Drivers heading north on Bangerter Parkway will crawl through a 15-mile-per-hour construction zone starting Monday, Aug. 10, as Draper City begins widening and signal work near 13800 South.

The speed limit between 13800 South and 150 East drops to 15 mph for construction zone safety, Draper City announced in an Aug. 8 post on X. A second restriction lowers the northbound limit to 25 mph at 14000 South in preparation for the same project. Lane reductions accompany both slowdowns, though the city did not specify how many lanes will close.

Southbound lanes are unaffected.

The corridor carries more than 60,000 vehicles per day, according to UDOT, making it one of the busiest routes on the valley's west side.

Part of a bigger project

Public Works Director Scott Cooley presented the 13800 South/Bangerter widening and signal upgrade to the City Council on July 7 as a 2026 Capital Improvement Program project, according to a city presentation to council. The city shifted budget funds to cover the work, which aims to relieve a longstanding traffic bottleneck at the intersection.

Bangerter Highway between I-15 in Draper and 4100 South in Taylorsville became free-flowing after UDOT completed four new interchanges in November 2025. The 13800 South construction is a separate, city-led effort focused on the intersection itself.

What commuters should know

The restrictions affect northbound traffic only and take effect Monday, Aug. 10. Draper City did not announce an end date. Residents can monitor @drapercity on X or draperutah.gov for updates on when full speeds and lanes will return.
