Corner Canyon High School will stage Disney's "Frozen" with a live orchestra Nov. 12–16 in Draper. The production anchors a five-show season themed "Welcome to New York."

Theatre teacher Phaidra Atkinson told the Draper Journal the theme ties to a planned summer trip to New York City, a tradition the program repeats every other year. Students chose the name and are planning New York-themed activities throughout the school year.

The "Frozen" production will pair high school performers with fifth-grade and middle school students. Music teacher Randal Clark will direct the pit orchestra.

"We were excited to be one of the first schools to be able to do a live orchestra with the show itself," Atkinson said.

Evening performances begin at 7 p.m. Thursday through Thursday, Nov. 12–14, and Monday, Nov. 16. A 1 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Nov. 14 will include a pre-show event where children can take pictures with cast members, enjoy treats and participate in activities. Special pricing applies for the matinee event. Details will be posted at cornercanyontheatre.com.

Tickets for evening shows are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. All performances take place at the school's auditorium, 12943 S. 700 East.

The season opened with a free Shakespeare Showcase on Sept. 30 featuring "As You Like It" and individual Shakespeare pieces. Fifty students then attended the 50th annual Utah Shakespeare High School Festival in Cedar City.

Here is what else is on the calendar:

Student-Directed Showcase: 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4–5 in the Little Theater. Fifteen seniors will choose their own material and handle directing, producing and costuming. Free admission.

Broadway Backwards: 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14 in the Little Theater. Donations at the door benefit the school charity.

"Queens": 7 p.m. March 4–5, 2027 in the auditorium. Theatre teacher Case Hamilton directs this play about Henry VIII and his wives, which doubles as Corner Canyon's one-act entry for region and state competition. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

"Urinetown": 7 p.m. May 6–8, 2027 in the auditorium. Atkinson said the musical grew out of improv comedy, giving it New York roots that fit the season theme. Seniors will also choreograph portions of the show. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

Student officers leading the 14th season include presidents Lily Henstrom and Hyrum Henstrom, vice presidents Paige Hillstead and Finn McDowell, secretary Elle Stotts and treasurer Chloe Maddox. Atkinson and Hamilton advise the program.
