Draper residents looking to pick up a racket can now sign up for adult tennis lessons that don't require committing to a fixed weekly schedule.

No long-term commitment required.

Draper City Parks and Recreation announced Tuesday, Aug. 4 that it is offering adult tennis lessons and workouts through a "punch pass" system that lets players attend classes at their leisure, without the risk of time conflicts from a rigid schedule. Both beginner and intermediate classes are available.

Registration is open now at draperutah.gov/events-programs/recreation-programs/. Residents can call (801) 576-6578 for questions about scheduling or pricing.

The new offering fits a pattern identified in Draper's 2023 Parks, Recreation and Trails Master Plan, which recommended expanding the variety of programs and offering them at a broader range of times. A 2021 community survey conducted for that plan found that 19% of residents who allocated hypothetical budget dollars directed funds toward constructing indoor tennis courts, signaling sustained local interest in the sport.

The department, led by Parks and Recreation Director Rhett Ogden, processed 6,718 program registrations in fiscal year 2023, up from 5,450 in fiscal year 2021, according to the city's annual financial report.
