Draper residents can watch live fire demonstrations, tour a police command center and learn to use a fire extinguisher at the free Lights & Ladders Safety Fair on Thursday, Sept. 10, at Draper Park.

The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. and is open to children and adults.

Admission is free.

This year, the Draper Police Department and Draper City Fire Department are combining their separate public safety fairs into one event, according to a Draper Police Department Facebook post. The merged format brings together resources that were previously split between two gatherings.

Draper City said on X that the event gives residents a chance to learn about department services while meeting first responders in an interactive setting.

The lineup includes fire and police vehicles on display, vehicle extrication demonstrations, a Life Flight or Air Med helicopter and hands-on fire extinguisher training. Residents can also visit stations featuring the K-9 unit, SWAT, detectives, traffic enforcement, the Canyon Ranger program, CSI, school resource officers, crossing guards and Volunteers in Police Service.

The Draper City Fire Department, which reported more than 65 members operating out of three stations in its 2023 annual report, hosted a similar fire prevention open house at Draper Park that year and drew an estimated 400 attendees.

The fair will be held rain or shine. Severe weather could force a cancellation or postponement. Residents can check the city's event page or call (801) 576-6584 for updates.
